ARCSOC
As president of the University of Cambridge Architecture Society, Reuben led a committee of 40 students and fundraised and managed a budget of £42,000. In 2022/23, The society hosted club nights attended by 1000+ crowds; staged an exhibition in central London showcasing the work of 250 students; and heard from guest speakers including Tim Ingold, Sofia Karim, and Kunle Barker. ARCSOC fought a battle to match design tutors’ pay to equivalent academic positions at the university; turned away hundreds of people from over-full life drawing classes every week; and placed second-bottom in the university football league.
Along with vice-president Laxmi Andrews, Reuben made long-term improvements to the society’s systems a key pillar of his presidency. This included the design and development of a new website with e-commerce functionality and an elegant UX; the restructuring of key committee roles; and the replenishing of a hole in ARCSOC’s finances left by the Covid pandemic. All this while working with departmental leadership on pedagogy, hiring, facilities, and strategy — and finishing an architecture degree.
